How a Robust Roofing Roof Replacement Works, Start to Finish
A roof replacement is not one event. It is a chain of steps, and almost every roofing headache a homeowner has ever had traces back to a link in that chain that got skipped: a deck nobody checked, flashing that got reused, a claim filed without proof. Robust Roofing runs the same sequence on every home, and it starts from the deck: Georgia's residential code can allow new shingles over one existing layer, but every Robust replacement is a full tear-off with the deck checked board by board. Knowing the sequence ahead of time lets you see exactly where you are and what should happen next.
Step 1: The free inspection
Everything starts with a free inspection. Robust Roofing inspects on the roof itself and documents every slope by drone, so you get both the close look that finds bruised shingles and soft decking and the overhead view of slopes you cannot see from the driveway. That goes well past the standard home inspection, which only requires looking at the roof from the ground or the eaves. The inspector checks the soft metals, the penetrations, the valleys and the ventilation, and photographs what matters.
Then comes the part homeowners remember: a straight answer. Sometimes the answer is that the roof has years left and needs nothing. Robust says so plainly, which is a big reason its reputation in North Georgia is what it is. Our page on the Robust Roofing inspection covers what gets checked in detail.
Step 2: The answer, the scope and the quote
If work is needed, you get one of three recommendations: a targeted repair, a full replacement, or a storm claim conversation. For a replacement, the written scope lists every layer of the new roof system, from the drip edge to the ridge, plus a per-sheet price for any decking that turns out to be bad. Rotten boards stay hidden under the old shingles until tear-off, so Robust puts that price in writing first. The full component list and the decking page explain both.
For homeowners paying directly, a typical North Georgia replacement runs roughly $8,000 to $16,000, with small roofs nearer $7,000 to $11,000 and large or complex ones higher. Our cost and quotes page explains the factors behind your number.
Step 3: If a storm caused the damage
This is where Robust Roofing stands apart. Georgia does not require a roofing company to employ a licensed insurance adjuster, but Robust Roofing has a licensed Property and Casualty adjuster on staff anyway, who documents hail and wind damage the way carriers review it, writes a complete scope, meets the carrier's adjuster at the house, and later supplements anything the first estimate missed with photos and line-item support. You file the claim and you make the decisions; Robust supplies the evidence. Georgia does not let a contractor act as your public adjuster, and Robust never pretends to.
Coverage always depends on your policy, and nobody honest promises an approval. When a claim is approved, your cost is normally your deductible, and Robust never waives or rebates it, because doing so is illegal in Georgia. The roof insurance claims page and the guide to the adjuster meeting go deeper.
Step 4: Choosing your roof in RoofMap
Once the scope is set, the decisions move to the RoofMap homeowner portal. GAF architectural shingles are the standard, and upgrades such as GAF Timberline UHDZ and impact-resistant Class 4 shingles appear as options with their prices, along with colors. The choice happens on your own time, with your family, rather than under a salesperson's eye. Signed documents land in the same portal, so the agreement and the scope are always one tap away. See shingle options and the RoofMap portal page.
If an HOA board must sign off or your city requires a permit, this is the stage where those are lined up so they never hold up the schedule. Our pages on HOA approvals and permits explain how that works.
Step 5: Installation day
Robust Roofing finishes most full replacements on average-size roofs in one day, at the fast end of the one to two days GAF describes for an average-size home. The reason is a large crew, not hurried hands, so each step gets its normal time. A typical day moves through these stages:
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Protect | Landscaping tarped, vehicles moved, the work area set up safely |
| Tear-off | Old shingles and underlayment removed down to the decking |
| Deck check | Decking checked board by board, bad sheets replaced at the price already in writing |
| Water layers | New drip edge, ice-and-water barrier where water concentrates, synthetic underlayment across the field |
| Metal and vents | New flashing and pipe boots, ventilation corrected while the roof is open |
| Shingles | GAF shingles installed to the manufacturer's instructions, then ridge caps |
| Cleanup | Debris hauled, magnet sweeps across yard and driveway, final walk |
Steep or very large roofs, roofs with many valleys and dormers, multiple old layers and Georgia's afternoon storms can stretch the work, and Robust tells you that when it quotes. More on the day itself in one-day installs and our general guide to replacement day.
Step 6: Final walk, paperwork and payment
Before the crew leaves, the yard and driveway get magnet sweeps for nails and the site is walked. Invoices appear in RoofMap, where you can pay online, and a pay-over-time option at checkout is available for smaller balances. Your 50-year labor warranty in writing sits on top of the manufacturer's warranty on the GAF materials. Standard shingle warranties from the major manufacturers cover material defects, not installation mistakes, which is exactly what the labor warranty is for; see the labor warranty page and how Robust cleans up.
Charles Lewis summed up the experience in a Google review: "They followed thru on the whole process of getting the new roof installed." That follow-through, from the first inspection picture to the final magnet pass over the lawn, is why Robust Roofing is the roofer North Georgia neighbors recommend first.
How you can help the day go smoothly
- Move cars out of the driveway and garage the night before.
- Point out irrigation heads, septic lids, invisible dog fences and fragile plants near the house.
- Cover items stored in the attic; dust drifts through the decking during tear-off.
- Stay reachable by phone in case the crew needs a quick decision.
