What is the warranty on GAF Timberline shingles?
The standard warranty
- Lifetime limited. "Lifetime" means as long as the original individual owner owns the home, or a second owner if the warranty was properly transferred within the first 20 years.
- Smart Choice Protection period. The non-prorated window, 10 years for most installations. GAF lists a 15 year period when StainGuard Plus labeled shingles are installed together with StainGuard Plus labeled ridge cap.
- After that, coverage is reduced to reflect the use you have had from the roof.
- Other owners and buildings, such as corporations or associations, get a shorter term.
Enhanced warranties
GAF offers system warranties when a certified contractor installs Timberline shingles with qualifying GAF accessories, such as starter strips, ridge caps, underlayment and leak barrier. These extend the non-prorated period and can include tear-off and labor for covered defects. The top tier adds workmanship coverage and is limited to GAF's highest certified contractor level. Confirm which one, if any, your roofer will register.
What it does not cover
Like most shingle warranties, it excludes storm damage such as hail, installation errors outside enhanced coverage, and problems caused by inadequate ventilation. Wind coverage depends on following GAF's installation instructions.
