How much does it cost to replace fascia on a house?

Short answer. It depends on whether you are fixing a few rotted sections or redoing every eave: spot repairs at corners and below leaking gutters are modest jobs, while replacing or wrapping all the fascia on a two-story house is much larger. The most economical time for a whole-house replacement is during a roof replacement, when the gutters are coming down and new drip edge is going on.

Judge the extent first

Walk around the house and press a screwdriver into the fascia at these spots:

Soft wood in two or three places is a section repair. Soft wood all around, or failing paint everywhere, points to whole-house replacement or wrapping.

Section repairs

The crew cuts out the bad length, checks the rafter tails behind it, splices in a matching board, and primes and paints. Matching the profile and paint color on older homes takes some care, and new sections can stand out until the whole house is repainted.

Whole-house replacement

Every eave is stripped, repaired and covered with new boards, often PVC or wood wrapped in aluminum. Gutters must come down and go back up, which is why this job lines up so well with new gutters or a new roof.

Insurance

Rot from years of moisture is maintenance and generally not covered. Sudden damage, such as a tree limb or wind tearing off fascia, may be, depending on your policy.
