Should a roof inspection and gutter cleaning be done together?
What gutters reveal about the roof
- Shingle granules. Heavy granule buildup can mean an aging roof shedding its protective coating, or fresh hail impact. A handful after a storm is worth a photo.
- Dents. Aluminum gutters and downspouts dent at hail sizes that may not show from the ground on shingles, so inspectors check them first.
- Shingle pieces, nails or sealant. Signs that something on the roof has come loose.
- Debris lines and stains showing where water has been overflowing onto the fascia.
Which comes first?
If you suspect storm damage, have the roof inspected before the gutters are cleaned, or ask the cleaner to photograph what comes out, especially granules, before dumping it. That evidence can matter if you file a claim. For routine maintenance, cleaning first gives the inspector a clear view of the gutter interior and the drip edge.
Good timing in Georgia
Spring, after hail season's peak and the pollen drop, and late fall, after the leaves are down. Also after any significant hail or wind event.
What a real roof inspection adds
Someone walking the roof where it is safe, checking flashing, pipe boots, vents and seals, looking for hail and wind damage, and photographing it all. Robust Roofing does this for free but does not offer gutter cleaning, so pair its inspection with a separate cleaner.
